Erickson participated in the D-Day invasion as a medic. From an article in the Clinton Herald (June 4, 1994): “Even to land on the beach was a miracle the morning of D-Day because of the tide and opposition. Sprawling bodies told a mute story of the murderous fire. That, plus the gigantic and pitiful litter of wreckage along miles of the shore line”.
